Couldn’t attend the Walther Roundtable? No Problem! The Summer 2020 Concordia Historical Institute Quarterly (Volume 93, no.2) contains three of the four lectures that were presented at the Walther Roundtable.
The first article is entitled, “C. F. W. Walther Publishes an Impassioned Plea: ‘Compare the Word of Christ with the Decrees of the Pope!’ Missouri Synod’s 1878 Saint Louis Edition of Martin Luther’s Passional Christi und Antichristi by Daniel Harmelink. The second article, by Benjamin J. Nickodemus, is entitled, “C. F. W. Walther’s Real Response to a Real Church: A Nuanced Response to the Infallibility of the Pope and the First Vatican Council”. The third and last article is by Thomas Manteufel, entitled, “Walther’s Mariology”.
Book reviews in this issue include: Bruce E. Keseman’s review of Ardon Albrecht’s “Lutheran Television: Glory Years”, Mark A. Loest’s review of Hermann Vorländer’s “Church in Motion: The History of the Evangelical Lutheran Mission in Bavaria”, and Cameron A. MacKenzie’s review of the sainted Kurt Marquart’s “Essays: Historical And Historic” which is the third volume of “Truth, Salvatory and Churchly: Works of Kurt E. Marquart.”
The Concordia Historical Institute Quarterly is sent to all members of the Institute. It is also available as a subscription without membership for $40.00 per year.
