On, Wisconsin! No, not the Wisconsin Badger’s fight song, nor the official state song of Wisconsin. The Summer 2025 issue of the Concordia Historical Institute Quarterly (Volume 98, Number 2) commemorates the 175th anniversary of the Wisconsin Synod! This issue provides four articles that document various aspects of Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod history.
ARTICLES
The first article is a timeline by the Rev. Dr. Mark Braun, entitled, “Key Dates and Events in Wisconsin Synod History.” It is a fitting start to this issue to assist the reader with an overview of WELS history.
The second article is by the Rev. Peter M. Prange, entitled, “Christian Philip Koehler and Wisconsin’s Ostensible ‘Turn to the Right’.” This article documents some of the early history of the Wisconsin Synod.
The third article is by the Rev. Dr. Joel D. Otto, entitled, “The Mission Spirit of the Wisconsin Synod.” This article focuses on the various mission endeavors of the Wisconsin Synod.
The final article, which is the first part of a two-part article, is by the Rev. Dr. Joel Pless. It is entitled, “The WELS Connection to Missouri.” The second part of this article will appear in the next issue. This article focuses on Wisconsin Synod men who impacted the LCMS in various ways.
