1822 Richard Francis Weymouth, English Baptist philologist, was born in Plymouth Dock, Devonshire, England (d. 1902).

1836 Hans G. Nageli (b. 26 May 1773), Swiss pioneer music educator and composer, died.

1838 Wake Forest College was chartered in Wake Forest, North Carolina. It was founded under Baptist auspices in 1834.

1900 J. A. F. W. Mueller, the first graduate of the Missouri Synod log cabin college in Perry County, Missouri, died in Chester, Illinois (b. 29 October 1825).

1910 Gustav Adolf Warneck, German writer on missions, died (b. 1834).

1968 Kenneth Scott Latourette (b. 6 August 1884), American Baptist church historian, died.

1971 Erhardt Albert Henry Riedel, missionary and professor in China and Taiwan, died (b. 12 June 1889 at Lincoln, Illinois).
