Growth of a Synod

Experience the growth of the LCMS in the 19th century as the young church organized under its first president, C. F. W. Walther, to reach immigrants with the Word of God.

CHI Museum at the International Center

Stand before a reproduction of the Castle Church doors on which Martin Luther nailed the 95 Theses.  View a selection of Luther’s writings.  Walk among trunks and personal items like those of the Saxon immigrants, who played a central role in the founding of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS).  See the personal effects of the Synod’s first president.  Learn about early mission work and the schools established to train workers for the church.
