1999 Miranda Adams, a student at Texas A & M University, died in the collapse of Bonfire before the annual football game between the Texas A & M “Aggies” and the University of Texas “Longhorns”. She was one of twelve who were killed, along with twenty-seven who were injured. Miranda had been worshiping at Bethel Lutheran Church, Bryan, Texas, while away from her home congregation of Peace Lutheran Church, Texas City, Texas. Her funeral was held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Houston, which had a capacity of 1,100. Approximately 1,400 people attended the funeral.
