Fall 2019 CHI Quarterly

Happy Anniversary! The Fall 2019 Concordia Historical Institute Quarterly (Volume 92, no.3) is dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Concordia University Nebraska. To commemorate this blessed event the Fall issue includes more articles than are normally published.

This special anniversary issue reflects a history of Lutheran education through a variety of articles: A 125th anniversary letter from Dean O. Wenthe, “Concordia University, Nebraska: Mission and Vision,” by Brian Friedrich, “The Foundation of a Lutheran University: Promises of a Lutheran Education,” by Scott Seevers, “Concordia University Nebraska: A Brief History,” by Jerrald Pfabe and Jenny Mueller-Roebke, “History of Teacher Education,” by William Preuss and Judy Preuss, “Expansion of Arts and Sciences,” by various authors, “Graduate and Adult Education,” by Jenny Mueller-Roebke and Ellen Beck, and last, but not least, “History of Athletics at Concordia,” by Jake Knabel.

Book reviews in this issue include: Larry A. Peters’ review of Robert Kolb and Charles P. Arand’s, “The Way of Concord: From Historic Text to Contemporary Witness,” Benjamin J. Nickodemus’ review of Derek R. Nelson and Paul R. Hinlicky’s, “The Oxford Encyclopedia of Martin Luther,” and Martin E. Conkling’s review of Robert Allan Stevens’, “Anticipation Exceeded Realization: Saga of an Antebellum College – The Story of the Original Illinois State University.”

The Concordia Historical Institute Quarterly is sent to all members of the Institute. It is also available as a subscription without membership for $40.00 per year. Single copies are $10.00 for issues published during the past three years and $4.00 for earlier issues. Shipping and handling are extra for back issues.
